Cant Download Game Off Internet Security

I am hoping to get a solution to the download issue I am having. I am using Verizon FIOS as my ISP with 50/50 speeds.
The modem I am using is the Actiontec MI424WR supplied by Verizon many years ago. I don't use it for WiFi though and have a Apple Airport Extreme through Ethernet attached and then a Airport Express wired to the Extreme.
I don't know enough about the settings for any of these so I only use the default settings.
At any given time I have the following devices attached to my network:
MacBook Air
Mac Mini
HP Windows 7
Dell Windows 8
iPad Air 2
2 iPad Mini 1
2 iPhone 6
iPod
Roku
Apple TV
Vizio Smart TV
Chromecast
PlayStation 3
Nintendo 3DS
The problem I am having seems to be with the WiFi. When I run a speedtest I always exceed the fios speeds I am paying for, usually around 60/60. But when I try to download anything, like El Capitan (6gb) a few days ago. My Mac Mini and Macbook air both said it would take over 1 day to download. I was able to plug my Mini in to the Extreme with Ethernet and download in a few minutes though.
Admittedly, I have my routers in the wrong place. They are next to the ground in the lowest level of my house but my Mini was no more than 10 feet away with no obstructions between it and the router.
Is there anything I can do to improve the speed of my WiFi? As I said, I don't know anything about these devices so I only use default settings. Can I change any of it to make this go faster?
Thanks for your help.
